Did You Know Your Belly Fat Could Be Dangerous to Your Brain?

Sadly, if you are like most of us, by the time we reach our 30s, we start to see a little bit of a belly fat meeting us in the mirror. Many of us will laugh it off and quickly refer to it as our ‘beer gut,’ but the trouble is that belly will likely continue to grow and it does so it actually can be dangerous to your brain.

Now I don’t know if you are like me, but I know for sure that at this stage in my life I simply can’t afford to lose any brain cells or work with less than I already have. So what’s all this about your belly affecting your brain?

If you put off doing your workout, come up with reasons why not to participate in your weight loss regime, or just have become comfortable with that belly hanging around with you, it’s time to make a change. In fact, right now is the time you need to get moving, because if you do not, it is highly likely that your brain is going to pay the price – not today necessarily, but in the future. How’s that you ask….

According to some recent research it seems that those individuals carrying a lot of excess weight when they are younger, are at a greater risk of developing dementia when they get older. This study was conducted in the UK and if we were at all paying attention, this would indicate now is the time to do something about that belly fat.

The researchers discovered that people between the age of 30 – 69 who were obese were admitted to hospital more often for dementia than those who were not obese. This study was conducted over a period of 14 years, so that’s a significant amount of time. The researchers followed both overweight and normal weight people of the same age.

For younger people who packed on the weight, it seems the risks were significantly higher. For people who were in their 40s there was a 70% chance of dementia. For people who were in their 50s there was a 50% chance of dementia. But wait – because of those people who were in their 30s and obese the risk of developing dementia was three times higher than any other age group. That should get our attention! So, it may not harm us now, but as we age, we have a significant risk of our brain becoming unhealthy and affecting our quality of life.

According to the scientists who participated in this study, those who have a higher BMI are more predisposed to heart problems and diabetes. Both heart issues and diabetes can lead to the damaging of blood vessels, which can also increase your risk of developing certain types of dementia.

This could have been the reason why the middle aged group showed an increased risk of vascular dementia, which occurs because the blood vessels in the brain become damaged, without showing signs of Alzheimer's, because the latter is thought to result from plaque accumulation in the brain.

Certainly there is a need for more research to be done and for further longer term studies to occur where the follow up is at many stages of their life and begin at a young age. Other factors need to be taken into account that can be the reason for dementia and whether any participants have those factors.

However, for now, between you and me, I dread the idea of developing dementia, becoming a burden to others, having a body that can still function, but a brain that’s shorting out, so I think now would be a great time to do something about that belly fat. I think it’s time to start running to keep your brain from aging faster than it needs to.

Still not convinced? A review that was published in Aging & Mental Health says that those people who had the highest levels of physical activity had only a 38% percent risk of developing vascular dementia. So now is a good time to start with your workout program that focuses on blasting your belly fat and building a tone and muscular body that’s packed with energy and looks great.

If you want to give yourself a little help, consider taking a quality HGH supplement. What this will do is help to increase your body’s HGH production, which in turn can help you lose belly fat, develop lean muscle mass, increase your libido and your energy, and help with many of the signs of aging.
